Employer-Sponsored Temporary Visa (482)

Introduction

The Australian Employer-Sponsored 482 Visa (TSS Visa) was renamed as the SID Visa(Skills in Demand)on December 7, 2024, introducing a series of reforms. The new SID Visa aims to more effectively attract global talent, address Australia’s skills shortages, and provide applicants with more pathways to permanent residency.

  • No specific academic degree requirements
  • Lower English proficiency requirements, Most occupations do not require skills assessment

Three Streams of the 482 (TSS) Visa

Specialist Skills Stream

  • For high-income earners with annual salaries exceeding AUD 135,000.
  • No occupation list restrictions, applicable to ANZSCO groups 1, 2, 4, 5, and 6.
  • Example: A restaurant manager earning the required salary can apply.

Core Skills Stream

  • ccupations must be listed on the CSOL list(Consolidated Skills Occuparion LIst),Minimum annual salary of AUD 73,150.
  • The occupation list is developed by the Australian Department of Employment and Skills, comprising 456 occupations

Labour Agreements Stream

  • For workers recruited through special agreements between employers and the government.

Application Requirements for the 482 (TSS) Visa

  1. Age
    No age restrictions, but for 186 visa eligibility, applicants must be under 45 years old.
  2. English
    • Specialist Skills and Core Skills Streams: IELTS score of 4.5 across all bands or equivalent.
    • 186DE: IELTS score of 6.0 across all bands.
  3. Work Experience
    • At least 1 year of relevant work experience (can be full-time, part-time, or casual).
    • Experience does not need to be continuous but must be gained in the past 5 years.
  4. Salary
    • From July 1, 2024, the annual salary must be at least AUD 73,150.

All SID visa holders can transition to the 186 permanent residency visa under certain conditions, addressing the previous limitation where 482 visa holders in short-term occupations could not apply for PR.

Pathways to Permanent Residency via 186 Visa

  • 482 (SID) to 186 TRT:
    Holders of the SID visa who have worked for any sponsoring employer for 2 years within the past 3 years and meet requirements such as IELTS 5 in each band can apply for the 186 permanent residency visa.

    • Applicable for:Occupations with an annual salary exceeding AUD 135,000, or Occupations listed on the CSOL.
  • 186DE:
    Direct permanent residency pathway. Requires:Skills assessment in the nominated occupation. IELTS 6.0 across all bands. At least 3 years of relevant work experience.
